After leaving our native state of Colorado, my wife, Julie, and I, Tom, moved to Arizona in 2015. After our retirement we discovered a whole new world of hobbies down here! 

I purchased a faceting machine, jewelry making equipment, and began learning and growing in the field of gemstones and became a member of the International Gem Society. Over the last several years, I have faceted over 800 gemstones and have set hundreds of rings, pendants, and earrings with my own cut stones. How gratifying, yet humbling, that is at the same time.

Along with the faceting, we have acquired a 24-inch and two 10-inch slab saws for cutting all the rocks that we now go out and collect in our new home state of Arizona. So, to go along with all the slabs we have, Julie and I both are making cabochons. With the abundance of cabs, Julie is fulfilling a dream of wire wrapping………taking the stone from “the wild”, cutting it, grinding it, polishing it, and then wire wrapping the final cabochon. She does such a wonderful job, putting her heart into everything she makes from start to finish.

In 2017, we joined a prospecting club and have put many hours and many travel miles into this newfound hobby. There’s nothing like finding gold in “them thar hills”!!

With the weather being like it is in Arizona, there were times when we couldn’t be prospecting, so once again I found another new hobby.  I got back into working with wood which led to getting a CNC machine and learning a whole new aspect of woodworking. 

From there, with the summers being so warm to do the CNC and wanting to add a different level to my CNC projects, I invested in a laser machine.  Now in addition to those wood working projects, I have gotten into laser engraving on wood, tile, slate, and canvas.  A whole new world has now opened up!  Over the last year, I have refined my lasering techniques and gained a lot of knowledge. I have sold many items through personal contacts and various craft shows. Over this time period, my creations have become more of an art than when I first started doing this as a hobby.  I have personally received much from working on the laser which, in turn, challenges me to continue to create art that will bless those who receive it.
